If there is one thing that gets kids super excited every year, it is their birthday. Almost a month or two before their special day, they start anticipating what all they would do, what gifts they would get, what kind of birthday theme they would like, which friends will attend and so on. But the ongoing pandemic has put a damper on their birthday plans this year.
Well, so what you can’t organize the usual birthday party for your munchkin in this period? You can always throw a virtual party and have as much fun if not more!
Here are some virtual birthday bash ideas to bring a smile on your little one’s face:
1. Host the Party on a Video Chat App
Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp – decide which app would be the best to host the online party depending on the number of people attending it. Ideally, the guest list should not exceed 10-20 people for you to manage conveniently. If you have more people, you can probably organize two parties (if your time and stamina permits!). One party could be a close family affair where your kid can cut the cake and everyone sings ‘Happy Birthday’. The second one can be totally a fun riot with your kid’s friends and their parents!
2. Send E-Invites to Guests
There are several websites such as Vistaprint.in, Yoovite.com, Inytes.com and others where you can browse through hundreds of digital templates. You can upload your child’s photo and choose colours, fonts and background to create personalized theme invites. Once the e-invite is ready, you can share it with your guests through e-mail, WhatsApp or social media.
The e-invite should also include the agenda of the party, especially if you have lined up some activities for kids or their parents need to make some prior arrangements for party props at their home.
3. Bake/Order a Cake
What’s a birthday without your kid’s favourite cake? Bake a cake at home or order it from a trusted, hygienic bakery/home baker.
4. Surprise the Little Guests with a Goodie-Bag
If you are in the mood to celebrate the occasion a little lavishly, you can make surprise goodie-bags and deliver it to your kid’s friends and other guests. These goodie-bags could comprise muffins/pastries, return gifts, party caps, balloons, etc. If the party has a theme and games, the goodie-bag can contain that stuff too.
5. Plan Easy Games
It could be difficult to organize virtual games, but plan something that guest parents can easily manage at their home. Treasure hunt, pin the tail on the donkey and spot the differences are some ideas. These games will bring an element of excitement in the virtual party!
6. Put Up the Décor
Deck up the celebration area with some lovely DIY décor or store-bought supplies. The décor should be put up in a way that it is visible to the guests. This will put the birthday boy/girl and the guests in a party mood!
7. Hire a Virtual Birthday Party Planner
Do you feel it is too much of a hassle to organize such a party on your own? Hire a virtual birthday party planner! In case you don’t know, many party planners like Growing Minds are offering virtual birthday celebration services. Just let them know your requirement and budget, and they will take over everything. These planners will also host the party during the live session so that you can just chill and enjoy with your kid.

Virtual birthday parties are a new normal in the current circumstances. Take it as a fun challenge and make it memorable for your kid!
My kid’s friend hosted a virtual b’day party last week. The fun of traditional parties was missing, but kids enjoyed at least the spirit of it.
Indeed Pranjal. Right now, we have to make the best of what is available and possible.
